Make it mobile

Feedback from US prospects, as well as our Canadian teams and their resident's indicated that a native mobile app would make it easier for residents to manage their home on the go.

Consistency and way finding

Originally built without a design system in place, our web portal had been "frankenstiened" over time with a disjointed combination of  components and patterns. The lack of consistency and clear hierarchy made the resident experience difficult to use and navigate. Needless to say we approached this problem by starting with a design system that we could build on and tweak throughout the project.

Accessible branding

Our platforms used to allow clients to inject their branding into the experience by selecting their own primary colour. This colour would apply to buttons and UI accents throughout the company's portals. Without any guardrails or guidance in place, this control posed accessibility issues over and over again. For this reason, one of our goals for this redesign was to design a white-labeled solution that would meet brand requirements and accessibility guidelines.

So, how did we do it?

We use an HSL colour matrix that allows us to create accessible versions of our client’s brand colours by adjusting the lightness of a given colour. The revised palette consists of a primary and secondary colour which is then applied across a client's product suite.

Key features

Payments

The payments module was one of the most important features of the app as it allows residents to manage their monthly rental payments. Our goals here were clarity and flexibility, we wanted to make rent payments as easy to manage as possible.

Amenities

Team's were paying to have the top of the line amenities in order to attract residents, however once residents moved in the amenities were barely used. Our goal was to make amenities easier to find and book for residents.

Maintenance

Maintenance issues can be stressful for both the resident and property team, and to make things worse communication is often times fragmented between phone calls, texts, and emails. We wanted to create a hub here where residents could manage their requests and remain up to date on the latest changes and communications.
